After months of rumors and speculation, it looks like The Incredibles will indeed be coming to a games console near you courtesy of the latest offering from LEGO.
A couple of months ago, we reported on some internet buzz pertaining to a potential LEGO game based on The Incredibles movies. The source of the rumors was someone reportedly close to the project, and they were apparently on the up and up. Based on the latest news, art work for Lego The Incredibles has surfaced, boasting LEGO-fied versions of the main cast and logos for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. This news comes to us from The Brick Fan, which is unfortunately not a website dedicated to wall enthusiasts.
Believe it or not, the game was outed by actual LEGO sets. LEGO Juniors sets themed after The Incredibles are now on sale at Walmart and, as the source points out, the back of their instruction manuals features a promotion for the upcoming game.
As noted in the original rumors, the game is indeed being developed by TT Games and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Also, this will be the first Pixar film to be turned into a LEGO game, which is kind of baffling to us. Everything from Star Wars and Harry Potter to Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones has been turned into a LEGO game at this point, so the fact that Pixar has been out of the mix for so long is pretty surprising.
A couple of points from the original rumor have yet to be backed up with official announcements but, given how things are going, we wouldn’t be surprised if those tidbits turn out to be true as well. For starters, the original rumor stated that the upcoming game will boast a narrative that includes the original film, as well as the upcoming Incredibles 2. The LEGO games tend to play it a bit loose and fun with the source material, though, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see a few unexpected twists along the way. Also in the original report was that LEGO The Incredibles will feature references to other Pixar films. Whether that’s subtle nods or playable characters/levels remains to be seen.
Unfortunately, those are all of the details we have at this point, so we’ll just have to wait until an official announcement rolls out to fill in the blanks. Since the cat is well and truly out of the bag, though, we imagine that won’t take too long. Disney is pretty meticulous when it comes to their announcements, so we’re kind of surprised something like this happened. It kind of makes us wonder if maybe the playsets weren’t supposed to go on sale yet, with a launch planned for after the game’s announcement.
