It seems like Bungie these days just can’t catch a break. It’s definitely very different from the company’s days where it seemed it was always in the news for breaking records, selling millions of copies and being at the top of the crop. Well, with it seems like the studio has encountered one community-disrupting roadblock after another, and, this time, it has to deal with the Nightfall Strikes.
The tweet came courtesy of the official Bungie Help Twitter account, which detailed that Bungie confirmed that some of the rewards that were supposed to be handed out exclusively for completing the Nightfall Strikes were not dropping. In fact, for both the base version of and for the Nightfall Strikes, neither version of the game dropped the items as they were intended, resulting in a lot of gamers grinding, and grinding, and grinding, all to no avail.
Bungie is already investigating the glitch and looking to get the problem fixed as soon as possible. According to a follow-up tweet, the company has plans on addressing the issue starting next week. As you can imagine, some players who have been grinding all day for the loot drops and haven’t been receiving them have been extremely angry at the turn of events.
Griff Kentner, a musician, was one of the first to air his displeasure at the outcome, stating that he had been grinding for 16 hours straight over the course of 88 runs and didn’t get any drops. Now he’ll have to do it all over again once the game is patched and the drops are added back into the game.
Of course, this brings rise to the question: How many people will actually re-invest that amount of time back into to acquire the rare drops from the Nightfall Strikes after being left with a sour taste in their mouth due to the glitch?
Some players broke down into an argument about possible reparations for the grind. Some feel as if Bungie should give them free gun drops as compensation, some feel as if Bungie should withhold any free loot drops because the whole thrill of playing the game is for the grind.
It doesn’t sound like people have a clear consensus on what exactly is the ultimate and best solution to the problem, given that not everyone can agree on how Bungie could best solve the issue.
Nevertheless, many are simply hoping that the Nightfall Strikes loot drops are fixed so that everyone who grinds for the weapons in can at least get their hands on the items.
Bungie has been having these kinds of problems all throughout late 2017 and early 2018. The company had to deal with a scandal involving an XP scaler that prevented grinders from leveling up as quickly as they should, and then the company had to deal with microtransactions in the cash shops taking precedence over the loot drops in the game. And, now they’re dealing with the fallout of not having loot drop at all.
Hopefully things get settled so players can go back to playing and enjoying the game as intended.
