will soon enter production for Season 3, which means details regarding the new season are slowly coming out via leaks or even the show’s cast and crew. Executive producer Shawn Levy was recently more than happy to reveal a few official secrets and doled out some details on where the new season will start off, as well as who is with whom. Levy revealed the series will pick up one year after Season 2 in the summer of 1985, and that love is in the air for four of the Hawkins children:
Mike and Eleven and are going strong, so that’s a relationship that continues, and same with Mad Max and Lucas. But Again, they’re like 13 or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life? It can never be simple and stable relationships, and there’s fun to that instability.
The characters are dating, which is sure to make for some interesting situations. If nothing else, it gives the writers an excuse to write in a scene where Mike, Eleven, Lucas and Max all go to see , a franchise Shawn Levy confirmed will be referenced. Of course, it will probably also lead to another encounter between Billy and Lucas, as Max’s older brother was known not to be a big fan of the two pairing up in Season 2. Another potentially sad consequence is that Dustin and Will could be the loveless fifth wheels tagging along in Season 3, although as volatile as young love can be, who knows how long this whole dating thing will last with all the couples?
If both couples indeed hold strong throughout the season, at least it sounds like Dustin and Will have Steve to bro out with. Shawn Levy confirmed to THR that Season 3 will bring Steve back into the fold to mentor the young children in Hawkins, Indiana. That gives Dustin and Will someone else to hang with while their friends are on romantic escapades, and may also indicate Lucas has someone watching his back should Billy come around looking for a fight. Levy didn’t say whether or not there will be a Billy vs. Steve sequel but did confirm the Dad Steve magic was real, and it’s not going anywhere:
We’ll definitely get to see some more of Steve Harrington in season three, and I’ll just say we won’t be abandoning the Dad Steve magic. I don’t want to say much more, but I literally feel that we were walking along and we stumbled onto a gold mine with Dad Steve.
