Back before he was directing big franchise blockbusters like , Steven S. DeKnight was the showrunner for . He took over for original showrunner Drew Goddard, and only ever worked on Season One of the show before going into development on . DeKnight is in pretty deep with that franchise right now, but he wouldn’t mind getting to helm a Marvel show again one day. While he’s no longer part of Netflix’s corner of the MCU, there’s one character he would love to turn into a TV show: Moon Knight.
I wouldn’t mind taking a crack at Moon Knight at some point. There are so many characters that I love in the Marvel universe. Really, for me, it would be about schedule. My schedule these days, as you imagine, is a little tight. God, you know, when I signed onto , I expressed an interest in and , which I both loved. I’d love to see Moon Knight get a little bit of love. Great, great character.
Steven S. DeKnight already got a taste of street-level justice with Season One of , but he wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to return to that world from the perspective of an entirely different character. While talking to IGN, DeKnight said that he wanted to try his hand at Moon Knight, a character who has yet to appear in the MCU and yet it feels like everybody wants to make his TV show. DeKnight’s a busy guy these days, but that’s the character he would tackle if he had to return to Marvel superheroes.
For those who may not be familiar, Moon Knight is C-list Marvel character that is nevertheless a favorite among many people. He’s a street-level vigilante whose real name is Marc Spector, a former CIA operative-turned-mercenary who was mystically resurrected by the ancient Egyptian moon god Khonshu to serve as his agent of vengeance. In addition to being a skilled fighter, he’s also gifted with heightened strength, endurance and reflexes during the night, and his powers are at their peak during a full moon. Moon Knight is also totally crazy and suffers from multiple personality disorder, having taken several different identities over the years. He isn’t quite sure if that’s due to Khonshu’s meddling or if he was always that way.
Moon Knight is one of the most highly demanded Marvel characters to receive their own TV show. Netflix was reportedly in the process of developing one a few years back but there has been no additional news regarding the status of that project. Notably, James Gunn has said he’d love to make a Moon Knight movie, but the future of this character in the MCU is still up in the air.
