We’ve seen teases and hints in the past that would somehow tie into a multiplayer component of some sort, but it was all cryptic and vague. Well, one of the lead characters of the game, played by accomplished Hollywood actor Mads Mikkelsen, has revealed a little bit more about the multiplayer component in .
According to Games Radar, Mikkelsen revealed more about the performance process that went into making with Hideo Kojima and the rest of Kojima Productions, along with how the cooperative multiplayer will work, saying…
The whole concept of playing the game, as I understand, needs collaboration from different people from different parts of the world, which is also another level of fantastic-ness.
The whole interview took place at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where Mikkelsen was promoting the film . However, he was asked about his work on , which is building up a lot of buzz and a ton of media coverage for the upcoming title.
Earlier in the interview, Mikkelsen explains that the concept of the game is still something that escapes him because he still can’t wrap his mind around it. Hideo Kojima hasn’t really publicly given an explanation of what’s going on in the game. All we know is that there’s a research team using space-age equipment, and that Norman Reedus is on this research team. There are apparently some kind of supernatural, alien forces that can be detected with some kind of radar system located in the suits that Reedus and the rest of the team are wearing.
We also know that there’s this black goo that can apparently be dangerous, and that Mads Mikkelsen’s character can manipulate space and reality using the black goo.
And there’s also something to do with a baby in the game. We have no idea how the thumbs-up baby fits into the whole thing, but apparently various people are trying to protect the baby and there are people after the baby.
None of what I just wrote makes any sense whatsoever, and Mikkelsen doesn’t get it either, but he’s still excited about what the project is and how it’s attempting to bridge creative storytelling with some element of global cooperative gameplay.
Games Radar suspects that the co-op may be similar to the nuclear disarmament in , which saw players having to utilize the multiplayer aspect to shut down the nukes scattered across the game world.
Additionally we still don’t know what the actual gameplay is like, and only know that it’s supposed to be a third-person shooter like or . However, that doesn’t really explain what you do in the game. I suppose we’ll find out next month at E3, during Sony’s press conference.
There’s still no official release date set in stone for , but the game will be available on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4. The game is currently running on Guerrilla Games’ Decima Engine, which was the same engine that powered .
